Tubelines

To take the track maintenance of the Jubilee Line in-house from a PFI contractor

Project Leaders agreed a remit with Tubelines Operations to determine if there would be advantages in taking the maintenance of the Jubilee Line Track Assets in-house.  An analysis was delivered to the Operations Director, providing the proposal's Opportunities and Threats.  As a result, LU decided to change the organisation and maintain the assets in-house.  Project Leaders were asked to plan and manage the change.

Within three months, the asset management responsibility was changed, and the in-house team was managed directly by Tubelines.

Within twelve months, the following successes had been achieved:

  • Significant reduction of time lost to injuries
  • £1.5m reduction of costs per annum
  • Improved reliability and availability of the asset.
  • Enhanced reputation for London Underground.

To provide robust and consistent programme controls

Project Leaders agreed an innovative, fixed-price remit for a major infrastucture programme to deliver a project planning, control and reporting framework.  Through the definition of standard reports and a fully integrated approach to cost and schedule, executive management was able to see the information it really needed.  The project control processes became embedded, consistent and repeatable.

Within five months, the following successes had been achieved:

  • Significant time saving in the regular reporting cycle
  • Clear and consistent view of vital management information
  • Repeatable schedule and cost control processes
